Gibson Kerr are Participating in Will Aid 2018

3rd October 2018 by Stuart Millar Posted Under: Wills

Will Aid 2018

We are delighted to announce that Gibson Kerr will be participating in Will Aid 2018 during the month of November. The charity Will-writing scheme has been running for the past 30 years; working alongside solicitors across the country in support of the UK’s 9 biggest charities.

How Will Aid works

Under the Will Aid scheme, Gibson Kerr will draw up wills for clients and instead of charging our normal fee, we invite clients to make a voluntary donation to Will Aid. The suggested donation for a basic single Will is £95 and for basic mirror Wills, £150. These donations then go towards supporting the work of the following charities:

  • ActionAid
  • Age UK
  • British Red Cross
  • Christian Aid
  • NSPCC
  • Save the Children
  • SCIAF
  • Sightsavers
  • Trócaire

Basic Wills

The Will Aid scheme covers preparation of ‘basic Wills.’ A ‘basic Will’ is a legal document which normally leaves a person’s assets to only a few family members, friends or charities and tends to be more suitable for those whose assets are below the relevant inheritance tax threshold.

Any Will that requires the setting up of a trust or advice in regards to inheritance tax, financial or estate planning falls outwith the scope of a ‘basic will’. The solicitor here at Gibson Kerr will still be happy to take your instructions, however there may be a separate charge for the additional work required, above that of the basic will.

The process

November is the official Will Aid month. However, clients are welcome to request an appointment with Gibson Kerr earlier than that if they wish. The meeting will involve discussion of the client’s assets and how they wish their estates to be distributed under their will. The solicitor will then proceed to draw up the Will for review by the client.

Will Aid’s achievements

So far, Will Aid has managed to raise over £19million for charities through helping more than 300,000 people write their Wills. Will Aid enables a client’s donation to directly help some of the most vulnerable people across the world whilst also ensuring that they can rely on a professionally written Will.

Making an appointment

If you would like to find out more about the Will Aid scheme or make an appointment to discuss your will, please contact Lene Kruhoffer on 0131 220 9641.
